Winter in Banff National Park and Ice Bubbles of Abraham Lake
Dates: January 20-25, 2019 SOLD OUT
Location: The beauty of the majestic Canadian Rockies cannot be understated. The mountains are bigger and more dramatic than even their American counterparts. Winter snows cloaking the landscape in a clean slate brings a whole new dimension to winter photography.
We will begin in the resort town of Banff, only a 90-minute drive from the Calgary airport. Classic Canadian Rocky scenes like Vermillion Lake, the Bow River with Castle Mountain and intimate views into Johnston Canyon will give us plenty to shoot. Then, we will travel several hours north to experience the famed methane ice bubbles under the translucent ice of Abraham Lake. Walking on and exploring the lake is a truly unique experience and should not be missed. There are also many other great photo ops near the our base at the Aurum Lodge with the beautiful Cline River Canyon, reflecting pools and the North Saskatchewan River Crossing.
Bring your ice crampons for walking on the ice, warm clothing and adventurous attitude and you will be rewarded with a memorable experience.
Price: $2200.00 for this special 5 day class ($2400.00 for single-occupancy room). Workshop price includes instruction and 5 nights of lodging. Transportation and meals are students responsibility. We will stock up on groceries before leaving Banff as the Aurum Lodge has full kitchen facilities.
Limited to 5 only students. Act fast as you don’t want to miss this special winter class!

EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS: A sturdy tripod is a necessity for good landscapes. Participants should have a working knowledge of their equipment (know which button does what!) before the workshop. I suggest a SLR camera with a wide-angle lens (17-35mm range), wider, the better for the ice bubbles. I use the Canon 11-24mm. Also, a macro lens would be great for ice details.
