LOCATION:

I’ve made several scouting trips to Portugal and then hosted a fun and successful photo tour in 2024. I love this country, which has friendly inhabitants and amazing coastal scenery. There is so much history, amazing architecture, and culture to experience. Our cameras will be busy! We’ve put together an amazing itinerary that hugs the Atlantic coastline. We begin exploring in the Old Town district of Lisbon where our Tuk Tuk drivers will whisk us to the most scenic photo locations. Next, we will be picked up in our comfortable van for a short drive to Colares where we have a very photogenic lighthouse and quaint beaches to capture both stunning sunrises and sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. I’ve booked the top floor of our seashore hotel so we can shoot surfing action right from our balcony. Great seafood all along the trip! We’ll go further north to visit Aveiro with its gondola-style fishing boats navigating the scenic canal ways (the Venice of Portugal). Then it is off to Peniche where the roiling surf blasts into dramatic sandstone cliffs and wave action is very popular with surfers. We will also visit the historic Obidos Castle before heading south.

The next stop in our comfortable 8-passenger van will be the southern Algarve Region. We will be based in the charming town of Lagos. Very cool seaside cliffs, more lighthouses, and Portuguese tile-lined streets in the Old Town district will keep us busy. Our hotel also offers a Michelin-rated restaurant! We will visit the southwestern point of the country in Sagres where there is more scenic surfing action to capture before watching the Atlantic Ocean sunset at the Sao Vicente Lighthouse.

Finally, we head back for one more night in Lisbon where we will spend our final evening together in an amazing 5-star hotel on the waterfront with an amazing rooftop view of the city. Another fine meal and a chance to capture the 17km long Vasco da Gama Bridge at dawn on the final morning.

EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS:

A sturdy tripod is a necessity for good landscapes. Participants should have a working knowledge of their equipment (know which button does what!) before the workshop. I suggest a SLR camera with a wide-angle lens (17-35mm range) and  a telephoto lens up in the  300-500mm range
