Location: UP Michigan Autumn Photography Workshop Tour
We will meet in the town of Silver City/ Ontonagon located on the shores of mighty Lake Superior for some of the best fall colors anywhere in the country. The countryside surrounding the town is full of charming country roads that lead to lakes and streams in nearby Porcupine Mountains State Park. We will also make side trips to the scenic Keweenaw Peninsula, Eagle Harbor and then visit Bond Falls, always a workshop favorite.
Then we will travel 2 hours east to Marquette to spend two days exploring the area with its dramatic beaches, lighthouses, waterfalls, and lake reflections. We will be reserved for a sunset cruise out on Lake Superior (weather permitting) to get a unique perspective of the fascinating sandstone cliffs along the Lake Superior shoreline. The UP Michigan autumn colors are not only the best in the Midwest but rival any location in the country in my opinion. I have photographed often in UP Michigan in autumn, taught many workshops, and know the best locations.
EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS: A sturdy tripod is a necessity for good landscapes. Participants should have a working knowledge of their equipment (know which button does what!) before the workshop. I suggest a SLR camera with a wide-angle lens (24-105mm is great for landscapes. If birding or wildlife are more of your interest then I would suggest bringing a lens in the 100-500mm range, or more. We have also had some point-and-shoot shooters attend so don’t feel you have to buy the latest and greatest. There’s a lot to learn just by seeing.
